About Our Company

GOODSHELF is a family business that offers customers green, environmentally-friendly products for the home and family at affordable prices. At  GOODSHELF, we recognize that it is no longer necessary to trade quality for environmental benefits since there is a new generation of eco-friendly goods that are beautiful, practical, and competitively priced with conventional products.  We feel that these products are a small but important investment in the planet.

Many of our products help not only the environment but the people who make them by ensuring fair labor standards and a better quality of life for the artisans and their families.

We offer a fine selection of home goods made from eco-friendly materials such as recycled plastic, bamboo, soy, hemp, rubberwood, recycled inner bike tubes, and recycled water bottles. We also carry a great selection of energy efficient and solar-powered products for your home and outdoor life.

Why Recycled Plastic?

The Preserve kitchen products on this website are made from 100% recycled plastics or 100% post-consumer paper. By using recycled materials, we save energy, preserve natural resources and create an incentive for communities to recycle. These products are 100% recyclable, made in the USA, BPA free, Melamine free, and not tested on animals.

We also carry fair-traded recycled plastic products made using discarded plastic wrappers from Nepal.  Recycling programs have been started in several Nepalese villages to encourage the collection of non-biodegradable trash and to educate the public about the importance of protecting the natural ecology.  In addition to recycled plastic, we also carry products made from recycled rice sacks, discarded telephone wire, plastic bottles, and recycled soda/beer cans.

Why Bamboo?

Bamboo is a great alternative to many other materials because it is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth.  Unlike trees, bamboo has the potential to grow to full height and girth in a single growing season of 3–4 months.  Bamboo is degradable and grows in many different climates around the world.  It can be made into kitchen tools, textile fabric, and building materials.

Why Soy?

The soy products on this website are manufactured by Babysoy using soybean protein fiber and cotton.  Soybean protein fiber is a sustainable and botanical textile fiber made from renewable and biodegradable natural resources --the leftover soybean pulp from tofu and soymilk production.   Babysoy states that all soybeans are non-GMO (genetically modified organism) beans. Non-GMO soybeans cannot be treated or exposed to chemical pesticides during storage.

Why Hemp?

Hemp is the name of the fiber that is cultivated from plants of the Cannabis genus, which is cultivated for commercial uses. Among the characteristics of hemp fiber are its superior strength and durability. Hemp grows well in a variety of climates and soil types. It is naturally resistant to most pests, precluding the need for pesticides, and it also grows tightly spaced, out-competing any weeds, so herbicides are not necessary.

Why Rubberwood?

A selection of our products are made using the wood from rubberwood trees.  PlanToys® is the first company to manufacture toys using wood from rubber trees that no longer provide latex. The sap from the rubberwood tree is the world's primary source of natural rubber. After about 25 years, the latex yield decreases and the trees are usually cut down and burned. Instead of wasting this valuable resource, building the toys from rubberwood helps preserve the delicate balance of our eco system. There is no deforestation involved in the harvesting of rubberwood, as felled trees are replanted with new ones.
